Rep. Giffords Completes Her First Year of TBI Rehabilitation
Congratulations to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on her remarkable recovery through her first year of brain injury rehabilitation. Her journey reflects personal determination and her strong support system, as well as the benefits of state of the art acute (hospital) and post-acute (community/home-based) brain injury rehabilitation. Many Americans presently have no coverage for neurorehabilitation – acute or post-acute. Should they experience a brain injury, they would not have access to the continuum of care that facilitated Rep. Giffords’ amazing progress. Through the work of the Brain Injury Association of America, Congressional Brain Injury Task Force and others, brain injury rehabilitation coverage has been included in the language of the Affordable Care Act.
