Anton Merka, Chairman

Mr. Merka has extensive operational experience, ranging from medical, psychiatric and rehabilitation care in every level of health care to establishing certified special education schools for children and adolescents with neurological challenges. Over the last 40 years, he has devoted himself to improving care and treatment for this special population of individuals with brain-related challenges, and he has lead diverse facilities from the verge of collapse to programs considered to be some of the best in the nation in treating individuals with brain injuries and other neurological disorders. Mr. Merka was the 2009 recipient of the North American Brain Injury Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Carolyn McDermott, President 

Mrs. McDermott has worked in the brain injury industry with Anton Merka for over 25 years. She has wide ranging-experience in marketing, both national and international, case management and business development. As the National Director for Marketing for the Brown Schools, she helped lead a program with over 600 beds in Texas which served individuals from as far away as Canada, Mexico, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates. For the past 15 years, she has worked with Mr. Merka at the Lakeview facilities to establish exceptional programs for the most difficult-to-treat individuals. Mrs. McDermott credits the success of the Lakeview facilities to the outstanding medical, clinical, and support staff who have focused on person-centered care, while becoming the best in their specialty areas.

Christopher Slover, Chief Executive Officer 

Mr. Slover currently serves as chairman of the Brain Injury Association of America Business and Professional Council, and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of America. Mr. Slover served on the Board of the National Brain Injury Research Treatment and Training Center and has been actively involved in the planning of and presenting at the Brain Injury Association’s Annual Business Practice College. Mr. Slover previously served as the Administrator of Lakeview Management, Inc. and has a long history in business and financial management. He is a graduate of the University of Texas and a member of Young Presidents Organization.

Tina M. Trudel, PhD, Chief Operating Officer

Dr. Trudel provides oversight of Lakeview’s hospital, residential and community-integrated programs nationwide.  Dr. Trudel served as the Site Director and Senior Scientist/Research Coordinator of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center at Virginia NeuroCare (2005-2013). She has been with Lakeview since the company’s inception. Dr. Trudel chaired the Brain Injury Long Term Issues Task Force of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine for over a decade, and is a board member of the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA), the North American Brain Injury Society and the Sara Jane Brain Foundation and a reviewer for the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research TBI Model Systems. Her research includes her involvement as Senior Research Associate for the Institute of Matching Person and Technology and Research Chair of the JBS International TBI Resource Optimization Center. Dr. Trudel is Senior Partner of Northeast Evaluation Specialists of Dover, NH, a clinician specialty group providing IME, FCE, and neuropsychological and consultation services. She served on the governing board of the American Academy for Certification of Brain Injury Specialists (AACBIS) and as postdoctoral supervisor in the Department of Psychiatry, Dartmouth Medical School from 2000-2005. Dr. Trudel is presently an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist with extensive behavioral and rehabilitation experience, and has numerous publications and presentations in the areas of brain injury, rehabilitation, neuropsychology, aging and neurobehavioral treatment. Dr. Trudel earned her PhD from Fordham University and trained at New York University Medical Center, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Trudel was recently re-elected President of the BIAA's Business and Professional Council.  Dr. Trudel was the recipient of the Brain Injury Association of America’s 2008 Founder’s Award for her dedicated service, advocacy and extraordinary acheivement in the field of brain injury rehabilitation.

Ken Kosowicz, MBA, CPA, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Kosowicz joined Lakeview in 1996, bringing several years of health care experience working in a large group practice model and within a national organization. He has a long history with Lakeview and in the health care industry, including serving as CFO for pharmaceutical development firms and Northeast Psychiatric Associates. He is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his Masters in Business Administration (Finance) from New Hampshire College.

Russell Merka, Chief Information Officer

Mr. Merka develops and implements cross-facility data management systems, secure communications, electronic medical records, accounting platforms, and reporting. Mr. Merka has a long history with Lakeview and has extensive experience in software development, having founded Dimension 4, LLC, a software company providing customizable scheduling, time and attendance products.

John Burnside, General Counsel

Mr. Burnside is a graduate of Baylor University and the University of Texas School of Law, and he is admitted to practice in Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Prior to joining Lakeview in 2004, Mr. Burnside was a partner at a Dallas/Fort Worth firm that handled business litigation and civil appeals. He has also worked as General Counsel for a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center.
